Charity Coach
No-nonsense coaching for nonprofit professionals

Working for a charity can be SO good!
Every day is bake-off and you’re snaffling samples like Mary Berry. Everyone is SO lovely, it’s like a boring version of Traitors where everyone’s a Faithful. Need money? No problem, just call Lenny Henry and he’ll pop down and write you a big, oversized cheque.
OK, I’m just messing about, but we both know working for a charity is more than just a job.
Your work matters. You use your skills, strengths and qualities to make a positive impact on the causes you care about.
You work alongside passionate people who, like you, work hard to turn tiny hopes and dreams into big, meaningful changes.
Working for a charity is rewarding, fulfiling and gives you a sense of purpose worth more than your monthly pay cheque.

But… working for a charity can be SO hard!
But doing good doesn’t always feel good. Your values are aligned with your work, so you REALLY care. You get a kick out of helping people, which makes it hard to say no.
You’re so busy helping others fulfil their dreams you forget your own. Poor boundaries, fewer resources, even less clarity…
It sucks because you got into this to change the world, some days you feel like you’re too busy to change your socks.
Some challenges are organisational; motivating teams, effective boards, managing conflict, developing strategy.
Some are individual; overcoming perfectionism or procrastination, leading with authenticity, feeling confident, trying not to let your work take over your whole entire life.
No wonder it feels as if some days you can’t see the wood for the trees, and there are loads of trees – and they’re all on fire!
If I sound like I get it, I do.

I’m Steve Allman and I’ve worked in charities for almost 30 years at every level from volunteer to CEO, trustee and Chair.
I came into the charity sector as a teenage volunteer and felt such a connection with the charity sector, I never left!
In my early career, I worked in direct support roles with disabled children and adults, people with mental health problems and older people, as well as a Youth Worker.
For the middle part, I became a manager at 19 and held senior roles before becoming a charity CEO aged 26. I’ve held honorary roles too, including chairing local and national infrastructure organisations and promoting entrepreneurship.
As a charity consultant since 2012 and certified coach since 2020 I’ve helped hundreds of charities and charity folk like you to overcome challenges, reach your goals and make a positive impact, both in your own life and in the lives of others.
My Approach
I specialise in coaching charity people at all levels, including CEOs, Directors, Managers, Fundraisers and Delivery Teams. I even coach Chairs, trustees and (selected) charity consultants.
I’m not a “woo woo” coach! Clients say my style is practical, down to earth and rooted in the realities of charity life.
I hold certificates in Coaching Psychology, Stress Management, Performance and Solution Focussed Coaching and use tools and techniques to help you move forwards, when relevant.
Clients often comment on my humour. I take my work seriously, but that doesn’t mean we’re not allowed to have fun!
Clients also comment on my deep understanding of charity leadership, a path I’ve walked for almost 30 years. It’s a treacherous path, but the views along the way are amazing!

Getting Started is Easy
You’re busy, I get it, so there are just 3 steps to getting started:
1. Book a Free Call
You’ll have 25 minutes to share your goals and challenges, find out how coaching can help and, most important, check our vibe and see if you’d enjoy hanging out with me more regularly.
2. Choose a Coaching Package
Let me know your chosen coaching package and payment plan and I’ll send you a Coaching Agreement to review and accept.
3. Let’s get cracking!
We schedule your first session using my automated booking service and we start working on your goals and challenges!

Coaching Packages
Clients say my single sessions are helpful, but there’s a limit to what we can realistically achieve in just one hour. That’s where coaching packages come in.
Coaching packages allow us to build a stronger coaching relationship and dig deeper into your goals and challenges and find solutions that actually stick.
I offer three packages based on the length of time you’d like support for, but we can discuss an alternative if there’s another option that would work better for you.
Benefits of Coaching Packages:
- Email support in between sessions.
- Fully-automated rescheduling/cancellations.
- Cancel any time and receive a full refund for any unused sessions.
- Monthly payments (for self-funders) and card payments available.

FAQ
I'm interested. What do I need to do next?
Book an initial session now and you’ll get an email with everything you need, including a receipt. You can also book a coaching package, request an invoice or, if you prefer to chat first, schedule a call to talk about your coaching goals.
What if I change my mind? Can I cancel?
You’re welcome to cancel your session and get a full refund up to 24 hours before the scheduled start time. Within 24 hours, I’m unable to provide a refund as it’s unlikely your cancelled session will be booked by another client. For coaching packages, you’re welcome to cancel the whole package at any time and I’ll refund all outstanding sessions outside of the 24 hour notice period.
How many sessions and how often?
I have clients who’ve got what they needed from a single session and others who I work with for up to 12 months. It really depends on your coaching goals and challenges.
Single sessions are great for a one-off confidence boost or working through a specific problem. Longer term packages provide space for regular support, reflection and action; great if you’re in a challenging role, lack support or feel isolated.
The most common pattern is a one-hour session every fortnight for 6 months, followed by 6x monthly sessions.
Who pays? Me or my organisation?
It’s most common for your employer to pay for coaching as part of your ongoing support and development. Some clients feel guilty or unsure about asking for support, but you only have to read my recommendations to see the results benefit the whole charity, not just the client.
If your employer is unable to support coaching, you’re welcome to self-fund. You can book a session or a package online via card payment or PayPal, or choose to pay monthly and cancel any time (please note this option is only open to self-funders).
Do you coach people who don't work in charities?
I focus on coaching people who make a positive impact through their work and the majority of my clients work in charities, including social enterprises and CICs. I’ve also coached people who work with charities, including funders, commissioners and consultants.
What are your coaching credentials?
Clients say they benefit most from my real life experience leading and developing charities for +25 years. However, if you’re looking for a certified coach, I’m that too! I completed my training with the Centre for Coaching in London and hold British Psychological Society approved certficates in Coaching, Stress Management, Performance Management, Coaching Psychology and Solution Focussed Coaching. I’m also a member of the Association for Coaching and abide by their ethical code.
